Where are we?

Our patch is the 85 hectares of coastal escarpment between Paekakariki and Pukerua Bay, it is a unique situation

  • KiwiRail owns the land and QE II National Trust has a licence to undertake conservation projects
  • NUKP has an agreement with QE II National Trust to undertake planting, weed control and pest control on the escarpment

We also have access to an area known as Perkins Farm under an agreement with the the New Zealand Transport Agency. You can download and read our thinking on the restoration of this area here.

  1. Keep up the good work. You are providing a great service for the whole of NZ, as well as locally.

I would welcome clarification on whether Project Crimson is part of your mandate.
I have exchanged a number of emails with KCDC re trimming my pohutukawa trees. \The state of affairs regarding ‘management and protection of indigenous trees’ is far from clear (buried inthe Resource Management Act). Is there any way Nga Uruora could provide us with clearly stated information.
I am particularly puzzled by some arbitrary division on the coast whereby some pohutukawas are ‘listed; and some not. I have five trees which on my Paekakariki property which need trimming, but am unable to get a straight answer from Council. Help! please Nancy Pollock

  2. Hello.
I’m hoping you will be collecting litter on Kapiti Island again this summer, and that is 1. when I am not away plus 2. you would accept me as a litter pick-upper.I have an eagle eye for litter.
